Charity Event Targets New 1000 Kilometre Treadmill World Record

Branding themselves “Million Metres for Melanoma” 12 doctors will attempt to complete a world record 1000-kilometre relay run to raise funds for a new melanoma unit at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital.

Taking place on October 16, the doctors will have to run under world record pace (4.55min/km) for 82 hours in order to achieve their goal.

One runner noted that he has trained for 9 months in order to be in race shape for the task alongside “working a busy surgical job including extensive after-hours work”, family and of course “fundraising commitments.”

Between the 12 doctors, $148,000 has already been raised with hopes to raise more during the gruelling event.

You can follow their attempt on Instagram and Facebook @millionmetresformelanoma and donate on their site.
